MPOWR Fishing LLC, a company developing and producing battery-assist reels for disabled individuals, was founded in 2012 by long-time Brainerd, Minnesota dentist, Dr. Roland E. Kehr, Jr. Dr. Kehr's oldest son, Nathan, is afflicted with Cerebral Palsy, the result of a birth injury. Nathan has no use of his left arm or hand. This prompted Dr. Kehr to co-develop the initial battery-assist fishing reel with Jeff Zernov.  

In 2015, Mark Felling, a quadriplegic electrical & rehabilitation engineer, added his 20 years of expertise developing products for individuals with limited dexterity or paralyzed hands and arms.
